It's great because you don't have to do a lot of work or invest a large amount of money to start doing it. You just have to do a little work up front to set up each campaign, and then you can reap the benefits of it for weeks, months, and sometimes years.
Again, I'm not going to overstate this, and I don't want to "hype" anyone with talk about vacations or a luxurious lifestyle. I'm just trying to help you understand the importance of setting up these income streams and how I use it for my business.
The Need for Landing Pages
What is a landing page?
A landing page is simply the page that the visitor "lands on" after clicking your ad. A good landing page is designed specifically with that visitor in mind; incorporating the topic they are looking for, providing relevant information, collecting information from them if necessary, and ultimately leading them to your method of monetization (usually an affiliate link).
About two years ago, you could have earned a good living by placing PPC ads which lead directly to your affiliate links. In other words, you didn't even need a website.
A lot has changed since then.
While the rare opportunity still exists to make money sending PPC ads directly to affiliate links, the vast majority of marketers agree that it's essential for you to use your own "landing pages".
Some PPC providers (including Yahoo Search Marketing) simply do not allow you to send traffic directly to an affiliate link. You must send it to a page on your own website.
In other words, you NEED landing pages.
Google does allow affiliate links directly in their PPC ads, but their new rules have made it nearly impossible to do it profitably.
For one thing, you need to use your own landing pages to ensure a high "quality score" by making it totally relevant to the ad text and keyword. If you send traffic directly to the vendor's site, you have no control over the page, and no ability to tailor it for each keyword.
For another thing, if you're sending PPC traffic directly to a vendor's site, you have less chance of your ad being seen, because Google will only display one ad for any particular URL. So if the top bidder happens to be another affiliate promoting the same site, your ad will NOT be shown on the first page of results even if you are the #2 bidder.
By using your own landing page on your own URL you totally avoid that problem, because you're not competing to display the same URL as the other affiliates.
In case you're a "visual learner", here's a generalized look at how it works...
Again, I must emphasize that landing pages have become a fundamental part of the PPC marketing process.
The Need for Tracking
Tracking your results is probably the most important key to being a successful PPC marketer. You need to track your numbers so that you know exactly how much profit you're making, and so you can know how much to bid on the clicks for your ads.
This is the one area where it can get a bit tricky.
In order to maximize your profits, you need to track the results of EACH keyword you're bidding on. You need to eliminate the keywords that are costing money but aren't resulting in any sales. Likewise, you need to optimize your bids on the profitable keywords.
If you're selling your OWN product, that part is pretty easy. Just paste a piece of tracking code on your thank-you page, and you'll be able to see which keywords resulted in sales.
The problem comes in for affiliate marketers. You can't very well paste your code on the thank-you page of everything you're promoting.
Fortunately, most affiliate program providers have some sort of tracking mechanism that you can build into your affiliate links.
For example, ClickBank recently announced the addition of their tracking ID variable. A ClickBank affiliate link with a tracking ID would look something link this:
|
http://AFFILIATE.PUBLISHER.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=XXXXXXXX
|
The "?tid=XXXXXXXX" is the tracking part. You can replace the XXXXXXXX with any combination of letters or numbers to track that particular link. Then when you check your ClickBank sales, the report will show you which specific links resulted in those sales.
Likewise, Commission Junction (and most other affiliate program providers and CPA networks) allows you to track your links...
What should you put in place of the variable your tracking code? One of the most natural options is to use the keyword itself as the tracking ID. However, that's probably not the smartest way of doing it...
Don't let your vendors steal your keywords
First of all, using the keyword as the tracking ID simply is NOT going to work for ClickBank because they only allow 8 letters or numbers. That's just not long enough for most keywords.
Second, anyone who is very familiar with web servers can tell you that it's not very difficult to determine the source of incoming link traffic to a website.
That's good for website owners, because it allows them to see where their traffic is coming from, but it also brings up an area of caution for affiliate marketers.
Suppose you are doing well and referring a lot of sales for a particular company. That company would be curious to see where those sales were coming from (and rightly so)...
Now suppose they checked their traffic logs, and saw a bunch of affiliate links WITH the keywords right in tracking ID! They may take notice of those profitable keywords and begin to compete with you.
Why should you allow that vendor to freeload and take your keywords that you researched and tested?
The obvious solution is to not use any keywords in your tracking ID's. Instead you can use a number or other code that corresponds to a particular keyword. You know exactly which keyword is represented by each code, but other people will not be able to decipher it.
Okay, so how can we use those "secret" tracking codes to track the results of EACH keyword in your PPC campaigns?
Lots of Landing Pages?
One way to do it is to create LOTS of landing pages. You make a separate landing page for each and every keyword that you're bidding on, and each of those landing pages contains a unique tracking ID in the affiliate links, corresponding to the keyword that leads to that landing page.
You could then keep all of your keywords in a spreadsheet, and you'd have to continually refer to your spreadsheet to see which keyword corresponds to which tracking ID.
I'm not going to say much more about it, because I'm sure you can already see how much work that could be. Most of my campaigns have hundreds of keywords, and many of them contain THOUSANDS of keywords.
I actually started using the "multiple landing page" method, but got tired of making landing pages pretty quickly.
In fact, that's one of the main reasons I decided to develop this new Landing Page System.
Instead of having to build hundreds and thousands of landing pages, I just wanted to build one landing page and let it do the rest of the work for me.
So that's exactly what I did. I used my programming skills to build the program I needed :-)
Now, instead of having to create hundreds of landing pages to go along with my hundreds of keywords, I just create ONE landing page and load it into the Landing Page System.
When I send PPC traffic to my landing pages on the Landing Page System, the system knows what keyword was clicked on, and it dynamically inserts the appropriate tracking code into any and all affiliate links on that landing page.
But wait...it does more!
Guarantee that your landing page is targeted for EVERY keyword
Perhaps you heard about the "Google Slap". Part of the problem is that advertisers were sending traffic to landing pages that were unrelated to the keywords that they were bidding on. To help combat this problem, Google starting charging high prices for clicks to pages that they deemed to be untargeted (part of their Quality Score).
By using the Landing Page System you can virtually guarantee that your landing pages will be targeted for every keyword, because it can DYNAMICALLY add the keyword directly to your landing page.
Using the Landing Page System's simple tags, you can insert the keyword into the title, the meta-tags, the headline, or any other part of your page. When the visitors see that your page contains the EXACT term that they were searching for, they will be more likely to read the page, click the links, and take action.
Alternative display keywords
As I created this program, I started thinking... what about people who like to bid on misspellings or other keywords that they wouldn't necessarily want to display on their landing page?
So I created the option for you to enter an alternative "display" keyword for any of the keywords that you are tracking.
For example, suppose you are bidding on the word 'diamand jewlry', which contains two misspelled words. You could have the Landing Page System put that same misspelled keyword on your landing page, which might make your visitor think they are smarter than they really are...
OR you could assign an alternative "display" keyword within the program, so instead of inserting the misspelled keyword into your landing page, it would insert the correct spelling (diamond jewelry).
This feature would also be especially helpful if you wanted to display the plural form of a keyword instead of the singular, or vice-versa. I can think of several other practical applications too, but I think you get the idea.
Here are some of the other features included with the Landing Page System:
Installs on your own domain - no monthly fees
Add unlimited campaigns and keywords
Option to add keywords individually, or in bulk
Integrated tracking reports
Tracks unique visitors and page views
|
Hopefully I've been able to explain this system's powerful features in terms that are easy to understand. I haven't quite covered all the bases yet, and I haven't even mentioned some of the best features yet...
It does Squeeze Pages too!
If you've been around the internet marketing world for any amount of time, you know that building targeted lists of subscribers is one of the best ways to build an online business.
The Landing Page System allows you to zoom in a little closer and collect an additional piece of information about your prospects/subscribers, which will allow you to better focus your marketing efforts.
I happen to use Aweber to manage my email campaigns, but this concept can be applied to some other autoresponder companies too. For this example, we'll use Aweber...
Aweber has a built-in tracking system that allows you to track the source of your subscribers. They do this with a variable called "aweber_adtracking".
In the past, I could easily track the subscribers per PPC campaign using that ad tracking variable, but it was way too difficult to track it on a PER KEYWORD basis. I would have had to set up a separate landing page for each and every keyword, each individually hand-coded with the appropriate tracking code. Once again that would have been a ton of work to create hundreds of landing pages to correspond with my hundreds of keywords.
The Landing Page System completely eliminates that obstacle by dynamically inserting your keyword OR tracking number into that variable.
You could also create custom hidden fields to collect both the keyword AND tracking ID as separate variables.
Let me show you how it works, and then I'll tell you why this is so cool...
If you collect the keyword, you can then insert that keyword into your autoresponder followups, or broadcast emails. Once again it's about zeroing in on the specific thing your subscriber was searching for when they found your page.
Let's say for example, the subscriber was searching for "Sony DVD Recorders" when they clicked on your ad and reached your squeeze page.
Imagine how powerful it would be if they receive the first auto-response from you, and it informs them that you are their information source for the best deals on "Sony DVD Recorders".
Another great way to use the system is to dynamically insert the tracking ID into the "redirect" URL of the Aweber form.
The redirect URL is where the visitor gets sent AFTER filling in their information and clicking submit. You could use the tracking ID to send them to a second targeted landing page, or even directly to an affiliate link.
This is a very powerful approach for click flippers, because now instead of simply flipping clicks you would also be building a list at the same time.
You would still be sending the visitor to your affiliate link, WITH the tracking ID intact so you can track the effectiveness of your keywords. But at the same time you'd be adding them to your opt-in list before they leave your landing page and continue to the vendor's site.
So instead of a one-time visit, you can follow up with them (probably on autopilot with your autoresponder) and present them with additional information, related offers, etc.
Yet another great way to use this system is to collect the tracking ID, and then dynamically insert that tracking ID (using Aweber's parsing system) into any link you include in your messages.
This would allow you to track the ORIGINAL source of sales made to your subscriber list. It's an awesome strategy because it's one of the few ways that you could really track the lifetime value of a subscriber.
By determining which keywords or sources are resulting in the most profitable subscribers, you can focus on those sources while eliminating any sources that don't result in a positive return on investment.
AdSense Arbitrage
This is really more of a side-effect than an intended feature, but I also realized that the program is great for anyone participating in AdSense (or other contextually driven ads) arbitrage.
It makes perfect sense really. Targeted contextually driven ads are served based upon the content derived from the page.
The Landing Page System is able to dynamically insert the keyword into the title, meta-tags, headline, and anywhere else you want it. This effectively enables you to exactly match the topic of the ads displayed on your page with the keyword that was used to get to your page.
As you can guess, the clickthrough rate of those AdSense (or other) ads will increase as a result of being precisely targeted. In other words, you're displaying ads for what your visitor is looking for.
For example, let's say you're paying 12 cents per click for a certain keyword on MSN adCenter. You send those clicks to a landing page which displays AdSense ads that are precisely matched with the keyword. And perhaps there is more competition for that keyword on Google, resulting in a payout of 50 cents per click each time someone clicks on one of those ads. Even if only half of the visitors clicked an ad, you'd be doubling your money.
That's just a theoretical example, but that's how PPC/Contextual advertising arbitrage works, and some people make a whole lot of money doing it.
Full Source Code Included
I already know that some people are going to accuse me of being stark raving crazy for doing this. In case you hadn't noticed, most of the good programs these days are encrypted so you can't rip off their source code.
However, it's more important to me that you have the full flexibility to do whatever you want to do with the program. The program is written in nice clean PHP, and if you're a programmer you'll have fun with it.
As you've seen from the descriptions above, the program is fully functional and ready to rock. But this also gives you the freedom so you could modify it yourself or hire a freelancer and have them fully customize the program for your business if you ever wanted to.
The only thing you can't do is resell it, or any derivative you create (I'm sure you'll agree that's fair, since I'm already GIVING you a lot here!).
Okay so now you've got a pretty good idea of what the program does, right?
If you're in any way unsure if you can figure out how to use it, let me put those fears to rest because I'm also including...
